1st Annual Block Party Was A Success!
As you know, August 28th was our first ever St. Matthew Broadway Block Party. It was truly a special afternoon for our members and guests. It was a pleasure to serve meals to over 150 people, to watch kids and adults enjoying each other's company, playing games, listening to music, laughing, chatting and meeting our neighbors (young and old). What a blessed event this was and how grateful we are to the many volunteers who made this possible.
Communication Evangelism is pleased to report the event came in under budget. We thank Thrivent for their generous $250.00 grant for the event and we are honored to receive an unsolicited gift from the Northeastern Ohio ELCA Synod office for $500.00 which we plan to use as seed money for next year. Mark your calendar now for Saturday, August 27, 2022!!
Finally, this week we received the following letter from a gentleman who attended the Block Party as a guest of the band. What a blessing for our congregates to offer this gift of hospitality to our neighbors. Thanks be to God.
"To All at St. Matthew,
Hi. I came down from the Cleveland area to your Block Party because a couple of my friends are in the band. When I got there, I was greeted with a beautiful smile and a warm 'hello' by the lady who gave me a name tag, tickets, & stars for three lucky foreheads. From then on, I couldn't help but notice the smiles and friendliness from those that served the hot dogs, the ice cream, the lemonade, and the popcorn. It seemed everywhere I went, someone evoked a warm & sincere vibe. I felt very at ease & so 'at home'. I met the most engaging pastor I've ever met in Pastor Bill. His enthusiasm for his congregation & the 1st ever Block Party was much to be admired and his Mount Rushmore of classic rock bands conversation was intensely rapid-fire, entertaining, & inspiring (Great Fun)!
I wanted to send this note because amid so much negative news, social unrest, & political frustration, it was such a 'breath of fresh air' to be among all of you. Seeing you gathered to honor your beliefs & sharing your sweet smiles was very much appreciated & I thank you sincerely for keeping the candle of Hope brightly lit.
Blessings to All of You,
