7-14-2028 Yesterday, our team spent the day working on a basement that was severely damaged by the flooding during tropical storm Helene in September of 2024. We split into two teams hanging ceiling titles. Also, we cleaned the concrete floor before etching with a solution prior to painting.
The highlight of these trips is always meeting the people that we serve. While we were working in the basement, we noticed there was a cat on the premises. We asked the owner to make sure the cat was safe and secure away from the basement. During this time, I had the pleasure of meeting Holly, the owner. She has two dogs and one cat, all rescued animals. We shared our love of rescued pets. Carla, my wife, and I have a rescued dog which coincidentally is named Holly. Although we are from different places with different life experiences Holly, the owner, and I share a common love. Our love of rescued pets. She said she saw the cat on the side of the road and could not leave it there. She also shared that she was adopted as a child. I said she is carrying on a tradition.
As I reflect on my experience with Holly, I think about how we are also rescued by the grace of God. Just like Holly now loves and cares for the tiny kitten she found, God loves and cares for us and through his son Jesus Christ rescues us from sin and death.
This is truly good news.
