Following the Disaster Relief meeting on September 25, I was honored with the task of coming up with a logo for our group tee shirts. But where do I begin? Scott and I sat over a glass of wine once we arrived home from the meeting and began to chat about our 25 years of living in Western Maryland ... in the same Appalachian mountain range as Roan Mountain in Tennessee. We spoke about the down-to-earth, humble neighbors who we adored. A culture very different from the fast-paced suburbs of Pittsburgh (our prior home).
As we wandered down memory lane, I recalled a welcome reception after I became the new Executive Director of Garrett Lakes Arts Festival (now Stage West), a presenter of performing arts in the schools and community. An elderly patron pulled me aside and said, "Don't come here to change us. Come here to embrace us."
That's it!!!!!!! Our logo will be "Embracing God's People".
And what about Galatians 6:10? The passage sums up our ministry outreach at St. Matthew. A group of volunteers even call themselves the "6:10" team. They go about doing small repair items for members of our church. The passage reads, "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith."
